Responsible Farming is the major keyword for Green Crop Farming Ghana.
Green Crop Farming works out its responsible Farming program on the basis of the recommendations given by FAO.

On the top of the FAO recommendations, Green Crop Farming Ghana has added the following visions and activities:

Transparency

  • GCFG wants to have an open style, telling the fully story
  • Facebook is used to tell the fully story what is going on at weekly basis

Team members are

  • Controlled every month by a doctor
  • Tested for malaria and various fevers
  • Getting paid medical bills
  • Having access to bathing facilities
  • Having security work clothes
  • Having a shareholders program
  • Having a ECO bonus system

Corruption

  • Green Crop Farming has a zero tolerance to corruption

  • Major suppliers need to have a CSR program to deal with Green Crop Farming Ghana

CSR program

  • Green Crop Farming Ghana has a strong CSR program. Green Crop has given a lot of donations to various groups. Among the latest donations can be mentioned
  • A tractor for the local school
  • Clothing equipment for the local sports club
  • Help to people with polio
  • Computers for the local school

Recycling and waste

  • Use of local purchase to reduce packaging and emissions from transportation
  • Use of  purchase in bulk to reduce packaging
  • Paper, glass, plastic, steel and aluminum will be collected for reuse
  • Use of biodegradable cleaning products
  • Waste food will be given to the animals in the National Park.

Overall environmental policy

Green Crop Farming Ghana have an environmental policy as follows:

  • Always to achieve an even higher standard than the public environmental rules, and always try to be the first in new technology even in spite of the fact that the bottom line could be better without
  • Always to chose the best processes, raw materials that do protect the internal and external environment in the most possible technical way
  • Have close cooperation with external environmental organizations
  • Always build in systems that prevent environmental accidents
  • Always register near miss situations
  • Always educate staff and maintain education so work can be done with optimal protection for staff and for the environment
  • Active internal and external communication of environmental policy and results
  • The annual report shall contain specific use of water, electricity and waste, petrol and diesel consumption for local and foreign cars and trucks
  • Use animals to cut the grass
  • Maximum use of waste systems for reuse
  • Reuse of rain water
  • Use of solar panels
  • Use of limited tilling to achieve the best level of organic matter (humus) in the soil.

Energy

  • Natural air is used when possible instead of  air conditioning
  • Solar energy is used to produce electricity
  • The farm is not connected to the public grid
  • All SUV cars are diesel cars and all equipped with particle filters
  • Clothes will be dried outside
  • Low wattage fluorescent light bulbs are used
  • Automatic switch off lights will be used in all rooms

Water

  • Use of  purchase in bulk to reduce packaging
  • Paper, glass, plastic, steel and aluminum will be collected for reuse
  • Use of biodegradable cleaning products
  • Use of low flow faucets and showerheads
  • Use of biodegradable laundry detergent, dish soap and hand soap
  • Use of  our own water drilling for drinking, cleaning and bathing
  • Use of rain water for toilets
  • Use of rain water for the plants
  • Use of septic tanks

Land and nature conservation

  • Bee Hives are used for pollination
  • Remaining trees from land clearing are given for local firewood
  • Around the hole farm the natural trees are still standing. Espcially the Neem tree that produces the nectar of the bees. This is to prevent a mono culture and to insecure the biodiversity. The farm is always developed so that the field width are max 600 meter.

Community

  • Staff residing near the farm are privileged as team members
  • Local suppliers are used as much as possible, also to reduce packaging and emissions from transportation
  • CSR program with focus on doctors clinics, the local school, disabled persons persons with HIV, orphans, electricity and elderlies homes. Read more here

Health and safety

  • Green Crop Farming Ghana is committed to prevent any accidental loss of any of its resources, including team members  and physical assets
  • In fulfilling this commitment to protect both people and property, management will provide and maintain a safe and healthy work environment, in accordance with industrial standards and in compliance with legislative requirements, and will strive for eliminating any foreseeable hazards which may result in property damage, accidents, or personal injury/illness
  • It is recognized that the responsibility for health and safety are shared. All team members will be equally responsible for minimizing accidents within the facilities and on the work sites. Safe work practices and job procedures will be clearly defined in a health and safety manual for all employees to follow
  • All management activities will comply with company safety requirements as they relate to planning, operation and maintenance of facilities and equipment. All employees will perform their jobs properly in accordance with established procedures and safe work practices.
  • Hazard machinery is covered and emergency stops will be established.
  • Security shoes is given as free to all team members
  • All team members are educated in escape routes and treatment of machinery and to avoid personal and machinery injuries
  • No chemicals is used.
  • Smoking is be prohibited at the farm
